Shape Your City

Our Brand Essence

The brand essence boils down all of the things we learned throughout the branding process into one core concept:

Shape your city.

These three words are more than a tagline. They’re an open invitation. A call to action. A reminder that Overland Park isn’t just a place you live. It’s a place you help create! Whether you’re building a business, raising a family, volunteering your time or sharing new ideas, you’re shaping what this city is and what it will become — and that’s something to be proud of.

Brand Experience

We invite you to come experience Overland Park. You just might:

Brand Voice

If you’re hearing from us, it better sound like this:

  • Enthusiastic: When we talk about our city, it’s with energy and excitement. You should feel the vibrant City spirit and positive momentum.
  • Friendly: That “Midwest nice” should come through. When you hear from us, it’ll be warm, approachable and conversational, just like the people in our city.
  • Flexible: Overland Park is adaptable and open, and you’ll hear that from us, too.
  • Proud: Listen for confidence, and a strong sense of appreciation about what makes Overland Park unique.
  • Bold: Our communication will be clear, impactful, and forward-thinking.

Our Logos

The City uses three primary marks that offer differing lockups, or shapes, of the overall mark.

These lockup variations ensure flexible usage across different materials and scales.

Use of the City logo is limited to official City business. Please reach out to the Communications Division by emailing [email protected] if you have questions.

Graphic Devices

Graphic devices are an additional branded way to communicate a message. Our city map, tree, and flag are symbols that support the primary marks and are part of the larger visual language that assists in brand recognition. They help build and strengthen brand identity by adding elements that bring community pride to the brand.

Use of these devices is limited to templated files and designs produced by the Communications Division.

Map

In Overland Park, you’re always somewhere near Metcalf – literally. Our community runs nearly the full length of Johnson County, and the shape of the city is as interesting as the people who live here. The map builds connections and encourages people who live in any corner of the city to find the road that leads home.

Flag

The flag is a rallying cry for all who call Overland Park home, whether it’s an official home, your work home or a home-away-from-home. It embodies our welcoming spirit, an open invitation to connect and belong. Like a varsity emblem, it signifies our local pride and the feeling of belonging to something truly special. It’s a symbol of the effortless connection we find here, a reminder that we’re all part of the same team.

Tree

Our tree graphic symbolizes the endless possibilities that grow and thrive in Overland Park, much like the diverse canopy of our city. Overland Park proclaimed the Red Oak our city’s official tree in 1990. It’s a point of pride, reflecting our long-standing dedication to our parks and our identity as a Tree City USA. Wear it as a badge of honor, a symbol of your appreciation for the natural beauty that defines our community.
