Teacher Resources – Arboretum

Arts for kids logoTrees

Tree booklets are available to teachers that can be used for field trips to the Arboretum to increase children’s knowledge of trees. The booklets are written to satisfy a large number of Kansas State Science Standards. A teacher, with the help of accompanying adults, can give each child a booklet and then with minimal help from an adult, the student can learn about trees and have several learning activities.

Teacher Information

Each backpack contains enough supplies for 30 students: 30 booklets, tree "cookies" (cross sections so they can count tree rings, etc.) measuring supplies (strings for little kids, rulers for older), pencils, etc.

Teachers can pick up and return field trip packs to the greeter in the Environmental Education Visitor Center (EEVC).  Be sure to count the materials when you pick them up and when you leave; you will be charged for any missing materials, except booklets (students may keep booklets).

To schedule your field trip and reserve your packets, call 913-685-3604.

The students may walk around freely in the Learning Arboretum, but please remind them not to remove anything from the environment.
