The Explorers Program is an opportunity for the Fire Department and the city to invest in the future by teaching boys and girls ages 14-19, the ins and outs of fire service.
To be eligible, students must:
- Attend school and have completed at least eighth grade;
- Be in good standing at school and in the community.
As an Explorer, cadets will participate in drills and sessions designed to:
- Highlight job awareness;
- Develop career-building skills;
- Teach life-skills;
- Promote citizenship;
- Facilitate character development; and
- Encourage leadership.
The OPFD Explorers meet twice a month at the Fire Training Center. They will occasionally meet other times and locations for field trips and community service projects.
Explorer Post Advisors are OPFD staff members who supervise all training. If you are interested in joining, contact Kyle Cochran at 913-895-6376.
