Any resident of Ward Five in the City of Overland Park who also is a citizen of the United States and a qualified elector of the City of Overland Park, and who is interested in serving on the council of the City of Overland Park is invited to submit a completed declaration of intention, a statement of substantial interests, a resumé and a cover letter to the City asking to be considered to fill the vacancy in the Ward Five position on the council until January 2018, when the position will be filled by the candidate elected at the November 2017 city election. Documents submitted to the City will be open records subject to the Kansas Open Records Act. All qualified applicants will be screened by a committee of the governing body of the city composed of the Mayor, the Council President and the Chair of the Finance, Administration and Economic Development Committee of the Council, who will conduct interviews of applicants on April 21, 2017 between 3:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. or on April 25, 2017 between 3:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m, All interviews will take place at Overland Park City Hall. The screening committee will recommend not to exceed two (2) persons as potential replacements to the Council Committee of the Whole for their consideration. The Council Committee of the Whole will interview the person(s) recommended by the screening committee on May 1, 2017 between 4:30 and 5:30, and will recommend a replacement to the remaining members of the Council and the Mayor at the City Council meeting on May 1, 2017 at 7:30 p.m. The remaining members of the Council and the Mayor will, by majority vote, appoint or reject the recommended replacement.
The deadline for receipt in the office of the City Clerk of completed declarations of intention, statements of substantial interests, resumés and cover letters is 9:00 a.m. on Monday, April 17, 2017.
