As part of the 2009 Residential Street Program, the city is considering the installation of traffic calming measures on 80th Street, between Antioch Road and Newton Street.
- Conceptual Plans
NOTE: Due to the length of the plans, you will need to increase the percentage once the file opens to view the project.
A presentation on the traffic calming program was made to the nearby neighborhood group, Historic Overland Park, in April 2008.
After the initial meeting, the first ballot, requesting residents to vote if they would like to continue participation in the program, was mailed. Of the 67 ballots mailed, 32 valid ballots were returned. Of these, 23, or 72 percent, were in favor of the program.
Following this favorable vote, a public hearing was held Oct. 13 to discuss the specific traffic calming measures to be used and their location.
The second ballot, which asked residents whether they approved the proposed measures, was mailed Oct. 21. At least 60 percent of the residents had to support the measures for it to be implemented, and 40 of the 66 residents said "yes."
The project consultant will now survey the location and finalize the design. Construction will begin in the spring of 2009.
