Learn what you need to know if this happens where you live or work
C.E.R.T. stands for Community Emergency Response Team. If you are responsible for first response during an emergency at work or want to be better prepared to respond to a disaster emergency in your home or neighborhood, you should take this six-week course.
When: May 19
Time: 6:30 to 9:30 p.m.

Course Overview:
- Introduction To Disaster Preparedness: What is it? Why is it important?
- Disaster Fire Suppression: Identifying hazards, strategies and resources.
- Disaster Medical Operations: Principals of triage and disaster first aid skills.
- Light Search and Rescue Operations: What is the situation? What can we do safely? Learn to identify materials available to rescue others in a disaster.
- Disaster Psychology and Team Organization: How to deal with what you see psychologically during and after as well as how to organize your team.
- Course Review and Disaster Simulation: Try out new skills in a disaster simulation. Learn to work as a team to stabilize things until help arrives.
Course Materials
Each student will be provided with his/her own course textbook and response kit. Response kits include: helmet, gloves, eye protection, flashlight, safety vest and backpack.
Additional Information
Portions of the course are conducted outdoors and require minimal physical exertion. Students should dress comfortably with consideration for current climate conditions.
If you plan to attend, you must submit a registration form (.pdf file). Classes may be cancelled if less than the minimum required students are registered. If the class is cancelled, you will be notified immediately and your fee returned.
