Detective Bob Norman's career with the Overland Park Police Department began in 1965. After serving as a Patrol Officer, he became one of the first Detectives assigned to the Police Department's Investigation Division. He was a pioneer in this assignment and assisted in establishing the foundation for this Division.

His keen investigating skills were well recognized. Bob Norman was one of the first Field Training Officers in the Police Department. This assignment allowed him the opportunity to imprint on the trainees his philosophy of fair and equitable treatment for all.

Although an officer himself, his tenure and experience were invaluable in supporting and tutoring new midnight sergeants.
