Sergeant, 1962-1989
In 1962, Pat Keating became a Police Officer with the
Overland Park Police Department. Serving in a variety of capacities from Patrol
Officer to Detective to Sergeant, he distinguished himself in a variety of
ways through the quality of his performance and his dedication to the citizens
of Overland Park.
In many ways, Sergeant Keating taught long established values to his subordinates including dedication, loyalty, and hard work. He was known for his sense of humor and quick wit and a self-depreciating style of humor, which permeated his every conversation.
Sergeant Keating was constantly concerned about the welfare and well being of each individual officer and employee. He often verbalized the need to address the issues and problems of the employees with the same importance as all other issues in the Department.
Sergeant Pat Keating leaves a legacy of care, concern, and consideration of the employees. The impression he made upon young officers years ago has manifested itself in the fabric of this organization today.
