Major, 1963-1989
Major Ron Jackson became a Police Officer with the Overland
Park Police Department in 1963. During his long tenure with the Overland Park
Police Department, he performed a variety of assignments and tasks, ultimately
rising to the position of Major.
Major Jackson was a dedicated and competent administrator who performed well in every assignment. Although he has held many important posts within the department, he is best known for his work as Commander of the Investigation Division.
As Commander of the Investigation Division, he is remembered as the ultimate supervisor. In addition to showing care and concern for each and every employee, he challenged each to become the best possible employee and person they could be. Equally as important, he allowed them to expand their own skills, competencies, and character. He preferred to allow employees to take the credit when credit was due and sought little for himself.
Major Ron Jackson leaves a legacy of empowerment. His ability to coach, counsel, and encourage his subordinates has become a lofty standard for all other supervisors in the Department to follow.
