civil service commissioner, 1996-2005
Harvey Bodker is a self-made man. As a business man and entrepreneur, he distinguished himself in the real estate community. Those of us at the Police Department remember him as an extraordinary individual whose generosity touched us all.
Harvey has given of himself in many ways, not the least of which was his support of the city and the Police Department in a wide variety of monetary donations, gifts and economic support.
As a true believer in the Crime Commission, he supported the Police Department’s participation at the Crime Commission annual luncheon year after year. His donation of bullet proof vests for the police dogs was timely and appreciated.
The greatest gift Harvey Bodker gave was not money but the generous donation of his time. As a Civil Service Commissioner, Harvey participated in an untold number of hiring, promotional, and disciplinary processes. His contribution to the commission cannot be calculated in monetary terms. This public service far exceeds that of most individuals especially when you realize that this effort was one of many simultaneous public contributions made by Mr. Bodker.
Harvey Bodker sets an example for all of us when it comes to the generous donation of his time and wealth to our community and as such he leaves a "Legacy of Excellence."
