Cats

cat photo Cats can be picked up and taken to a local animal shelter upon complaint by a citizen or report that the cat has harmed a person or damaged property. If the owner does not claim the cat within seven days, it may be adopted or euthanized.

Before calling Animal Control to pick up your neighbor's cat, try talking to your neighbor. Chances are, he or she had no idea the cat was out, much less damaged your property.

Cat Control:

Cats must be under the control of their owner, keeper, or harborer at all times. A cat is not under control if:

  1. A neighbor complains orally or in writing that the cat is entering upon the neighbor's property, and it is found on that neighbor's property after the complaint.
  2. It causes injury to a person or animal.
  3. It causes damage to property of another by breaking, bruising, tearing up, digging up, crushing, or injuring a lawn, garden, flower bed, plant, shrub or tree in any manner or defecating or urinating upon private property.

For more information, call Animal Control, 913/895-6300.
