Hershey Track and Field ~ FAQ FAQ

Registration and General Information

The Hershey Track & Field Program introduces children between the ages of 9 and 14 to physical fitness through basic track and field events, encouraging them to be the best they possibly can be. Started in 1975 as a playground track and field meet, the Hershey Youth Program has become the largest youth sports program of its kind in North America. More than 400,000 children participate in the program yearly, representing more than 3,000 communities across the United States and Canada.

The program is conducted on both a recreational and education level and teaches children basic running, jumping and throwing skills in an event which stresses FUN rather than competition.

Events

A contestant may enter as many as three events in local and state meets.  When three events are chosen, at least one running and one field event must be included. Within each age group, boys will compete with boys and girls will compete with girls.

No one is allowed to move up an age group to compete (even a relay event).  Children must compete in the state in which they reside.

Persistent cookies are cookies that exist even after a client browser is closed. For instance, if a customer visits a website, and checks "Remember My Login" next to her username and password, the website is likely writing a persistent cookie to her hard drive. When the customer returns, the website reads her cookie file for cookies associated with the site, and returns information based on the associated cookie values. Per-session cookies are non-persistent, however, meaning they are written to the customer's browser memory not the customer's hard drive. In short, per-session cookies only exist for the duration of the browser session; whereas, persistent cookies remain available for future browser sessions.
