Bridge Repair & Replacement - Accounts for bridge construction, replacement and repair projects on streets throughout the city.
Curb Repair and Replacement - Projects are identified from telephone calls from property owners as well as information from city staff. When feasible, curb projects are coordinated with the overlay program and new street construction. Costs for these repairs have been removed from the CIP and included as part of a targeted maintenance program. Budgeted amounts are summarized in the last two pages of the CIP Program.
Public Buildings - Accounts for remodeling and/or new construction of public facilities.
Public Equipment - Accounts for acquisition of major equipment.
Parks and Recreation - Includes the acquisition and development of various parks, construction and renovation of recreational facilities (i.e. pools, community centers and arboretum), ongoing implementation of a 25-year development plan for construction of greenway linkages, park improvements based on recommendations of Citizens Advisory Committee on Parks and Recreation and golf course improvements.
Storm Drainage - The Public Works Committee receives petitions on an ongoing basis from property owners to correct storm drainage problems. Based on these petitions, improvement districts are created as funds become available. Costs to replace substandard storm drainage systems in order to protect adjacent projects from flooding and land erosion during periods of heavy rainfall have been removed from the CIP and are included as part of a targeted maintenance program.
Street Lighting - Accounts for street lighting improvements made in conjunction with thoroughfare construction and other street improvement projects. It also includes lighting improvements annually made on unlighted collector streets. The Public Works staff identifies these projects each year based on an assessment of needs to improve traffic service on existing collector streets.
Residential Street Program - Each year the Public Works Committee identifies residential streets to be improved during the construction season. Projects are selected from petitions received from property owners requesting the improvement.
Street Improvement - Includes street construction, thoroughfare and street widening, and other types of non-thoroughfare street improvements. Costs for intersection improvements have been removed from the CIP and are included as part of a targeted maintenance program. Budgeted amounts are summarized in the last two pages of the 2000-2004 CIP Program.
Sidewalk Construction and Maintenance - Includes new construction of sidewalks in areas without existing sidewalks and replacement of existing sections of sidewalk damaged by weather, tree roots or deterioration due to age. Costs for these repairs have been removed from the CIP and are included as part of a targeted maintenance program. Budgeted amounts are summarized in the last two pages of the CIP Program.
Thoroughfare Improvements - Includes new construction, improvements and widening of designated thoroughfares throughout the city.
Traffic Signals - Includes installation of new signals at unsignaled intersections, replacement and upgrade of existing signals, and interim improvements to signalization in anticipation of future construction which will require installation of a more permanent signal and signalization of newly constructed thoroughfare street improvements. Maintenance costs for the traffic signal program have been removed from the CIP and are included as part of a targeted maintenance program.
Fire Buildings - The public building category accounts for remodeling and/or new construction of public facilities for fire service.
Fire Equipment - The public equipment category accounts for acquisition of major equipment for fire service.
