op: helping the environment
Buy your reusable bag today

Reusable bag being sold by OPNext time you're asked “paper or plastic?” at a grocery store, smile and tell them you brought your own.

Overland Park is selling reusable polypropylene bags for $2.50 (including sales tax) that offer plenty of room and durability to pack your store-bought products.

The price covers the city’s cost for the bags.

These 13 x 15 x 10 dark green bags, with heavy-duty handles and more room than most other reusable bags, are a great way to inexpensively invest in protecting the environment.

Some grocery stores may offer a discount on a purchase when you use a reusable bag. Other grocery store chains are no longer offering customers plastic bags.

Millions and millions of plastic grocery sacks are used each year. Many of those end up in landfills, blowing in yards, getting caught in trees and bushes, or in the Pacific Ocean Great Garbage Patch (also see Overview, Earth Notes, page 21).

To obtain your reusable bag, stop by the City Clerk’s Office at City Hall, 8500 Santa Fe Drive, weekdays, between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.

There is a limited supply of 500 bags.
