report Stormwater Pollution

Pollution at Summercrest LakeOverland Park has worked cooperatively with other Johnson County cities and the Johnson County Stormwater Management Program to develop a stormwater pollution hotline (913/715-6969) and online reporting form.

These tools will help cities in Johnson County find and identify sources of stormwater pollution.

When a person reports stormwater pollution in Overland Park, the information will be sent to the city's Community Services Division. An appropriate employee will then respond to the report and take appropriate action to fix the problem.

What is stormwater?

Stormwater is water from rain, snow, irrigation or other activities that flows across streets, parking lots, driveways and yards. The water is carried by gutters and ditches into what we call storm drains. These are the drains you see at the street corners or at low points on the side of your streets. This water is then carried directly to streams, lakes and rivers.

Why report stormwater pollution?

In 2006, the city adopted a stormwater pollution ordinance, which prohibits the discharge of pollutants to streams and rivers in order to improve and protect water quality.

Often, pollution moves fast in streams, creeks and storm drains. Getting on-site where the issue is occurring needs to happen quickly. When pollution is found in a timely manner, the source is easier to detect and the clean up is easier.
