City Attorney's Office

City Attorney/Civil Division:

Provides legal advice and counsel to the Governing Body, City Manager, City departments and City boards and commissions; attends all City Council meetings and meetings of various committees, boards and commissions; drafts ordinances, resolutions, contracts, deeds, leases, advisory opinions and other legal instruments; processes claims against the City and its officers and employees; and represents the City and its officers and employees before state and federal judicial and administrative agencies in civil litigation proceedings.

Prosecutors Office (Criminal Division):

Prosecutes ordinance violations in the Municipal Court and on appeal in the Kansas State Courts; and provides assistance to victims of ordinance violations.

The City Attorney's Office works only for the City of Overland Park and its employees. It does not advise citizens or members of the general public in private legal issues. Persons needing legal advice or other assistance should consider retention of the services of a private attorney.
