This commission is responsible for reviewing and making recommendations to the City Council on designating historical landmarks and sites in the city.
Each member must posses a demonstrated interest, knowledge or training in one or more of the following areas: architecture, history, architectural history, historical preservation, real estate, appraisal, geography, urban design, landscape architecture or sociology.
In addition, two of the five members shall be preservation-related professionals representing one of the above areas.
The commission holds public hearings regarding landmark nominations and makes recommendations on landmark nominations to the governing body. The Landmarks Commission also issues Certificates of Appropriateness for proposed changes to buildings.
Meetings are generally held at 3:30 p.m. in the Council Chamber of City Hall, 8500 Santa Fe Drive. (map).
