proposed Annexation: How it started
In 2007, staff members presented to the Governing Body a proposal to annex approximately 15 square miles of land, which would extend the city’s boundaries along Lackman Road on the west and U.S. Highway 69 on the east, generally south to 203rd street.
The area proposed to be annexed is in Overland Park's natural growth path and is already urbanizing, as evidenced by platting, sewer district creation and residential construction.
Additionally, the city wants to control future growth in the area proposed to be annexed to ensure that it conforms to high-quality development standards, particularly along the critical U.S. Highway 69 and 199th Street corridors.
On Aug. 20, the council approved Resolution No. 3614, authorizing the presentation of a petition for annexation and report setting forth plans for extension of services to the Johnson County, Kansas Board of County Commissioners. (.pdf documents)
