City Council Action Summary - Aug. 4, 2008
  1. Approved Governing Body Report No. 07-02, dated July 28, 2008, recommending the open foundation at 10315 Antioch be declared unsafe and dangerous, and the owner ordered to remove the foundation by Sept. 4, 2008. Should the owner fail to remove the foundation by Sept. 4, 2008, the Governing Body would grant the Code Administrator authority to abate the action by entering into a contract with a contractor to demolish, remove and fill the foundation, grade the lot, seed all disturbed areas and complete any ancillary work.

  2. Approved the following Council Consent Agenda items:

  5. Approved Ordinance No. LC-2774 designating 9205 W. 75th St. a local historic landmark.

  6. Approved Ordinance No. MW-2767 levying special assessments against certain parcels of land within the city in order to pay the costs incurred from cutting weeds and noxious vegetation and removing trash and refuse on said parcels.

  7. Presented pool projects update regarding the status of the modifications to the Aquatics Projects Phase 2 Design-Build Agreement and relayed that a change order would be presented for approval at the Aug. 11, 2008, Council meeting to remove the Highland View Pool from the existing contract with McCownGordon Construction; costs for eliminating the Highland View Pool and the additional costs for the Stonegate Pool will also be presented at the Aug. 11, 2008, Council meeting.

  8. Approved the Planning Commission Consent Agenda Items:

      1. Special Event Permit No. 2008-297 – 11930 Metcalf, to allow a “Store Closing” banner from Sept. 2-16, 2008, for HomeFabrics and Rugs;
      2. Special Event Permit No. 2008-303 – Vicinity of the southeast corner of 135th Street and Nieman, to allow a detached banner for the Mayor’s OP 5K Farmstead Stampede on Aug. 16, 2008;
      3. Special Event Permit No. 2008-308, 10430 Metcalf, to allow a third special promotional event which includes a tent sale and a banner for Seasonal Concepts;

  9. Continued Sign Deviation request for Corbin Park, vicinity of the southeast corner of 135th Street and Metcalf, to the Council meeting of Aug. 18, 2008, and directed staff and the applicant to negotiate a new sign package for the site, working from the base of the ordinance and using increased percentages of 20 to 30 percent over what the ordinance would allow; include a sunset or renewal of the temporary sign; create a stipulation restricting the location of the trailer from public view along a major roadway; and adopt reasonable setback distances for the signs with the sign size in proportion to the setback.
