- Recognized the City Lifeguard Team including Vickie
Gay, Tony Nichols, Maggie Jacobson, and Brett Lawrence for winning the Ellis
and Associates National Lifeguard Championship.
- Recognized five area high school students, including
Tiffany Harn, Dena Neuenschwander, Amy Ogden, Sean Dowling, and Chris Nigus
who were selected by the City to visit Overland Park’s sister city,
Bietigheim-Bissingen, Germany to participate in a one-week summer workshop
program.
- Scheduled a public hearing to be held during the
August 19, 2002, Council meeting regarding Ordinance Nos. ZRR-2382, SDR-2390,
and NU-2389; directed staff to provide additional alternatives for consideration;
and scheduled the consideration of the adoption of these items for the September
9, 2002, Council meeting.
- Approved the following Consent Agenda items:
FINANCE, ADMINISTRATION AND ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT: STAFF ITEMS:
- Confirmed investments in US Agency Securities, in the amount of $4,962,008.33;
- Expenditure Ordinance No. 8A – Outlining the expenditures from the General Operating Fund for July 18 through July 31, 2002;
- Capital Projects Expenditure Ordinance No. 8A – Outlining the expenditures from the Capital Projects Funds for August 1, through August 7, 2002;
- Ordinance No. MW-2394 – Levying special assessments against certain parcels of land within the City in order to pay the costs incurred from cutting weeds and other noxious growth on said parcels.
COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT: COMMITTEE ITEMS:
- Resolution No. 3287 – Sewer district enlargement
in the vicinity of the southwest corner of 137th Street and Rosehill.
- Approved application for renewal of Class B Private
Club License, contingent on receiving state license – True North Hotel
Group, d/b/a Residence Inn by Marriott, 12010 Blue Valley Parkway.
- Continued the unsafe structure action regarding the
structure located at 8536 Kessler to the October 7, 2002, Council meeting
to allow the owner sufficient time to complete the project.
- Accepted the low bid from Tandem Paving for bike/hike
trail construction and overlay at Corporate Woods Park, Community Park,
and along I-435 from Antioch to Conser, in the amount of $53,359.20.
- Approved agreement with the City of Leawood for the purpose of installing traffic signals at Tomahawk Creek and Roe, with the City of Overland Park to pay $96,000 (60 percent of the project cost), and with the City of Leawood to pay $64,000 (40 percent of the project cost).
