Checking the Status of House Plan Reviews using the Online Development Center

When you submit a set of house plans for review, you may want to check on their progress as they go through the review process. To do this, visit the Online Development Center. Click the link that says, "Search for: Permit/Plan Review Info " Now you'll have several ways to search the system.

Search by case number - Type the case number for a Plan Review. (e.g., PRS2002-00999) into the case number box and click the check status button and the system will find the exact case. If you type in partial information (e.g., "PRS2002-0008") the system will return a list of all possible matches. In this instance, cases from PRS2002-00080 through PRS2002-00089 are displayed.

Search by name - You can also search by the name of the person or company that is the primary applicant. For a Plan Review case, this will typically be the company name of the builder. The system will return all development applications associated with this name, including not only the Plan Review cases, but also building permits, subdivision plats or any other kind of development application. You can limit the system to just Plan Review cases by typing "PRS" into the case number field and the company name into the Person field and then clicking Check Status. Again, if you type in partial information, the system will return a list of all possible matches (e.g., "smith" would match both "Smith & Jones" as well as "Smithson Builders").

Once you have a list of cases, click on the case number that you are interested in.

The next screen will show detailed information about the case selected. At top you will see the case number and current status of the case. When a building permit application is first taken, the status is "Received". Once the permit has been issued, the status changes to "Issued", and when a Certificate of Occupancy has been issued the status will be "Final". The top of this page also shows the official address for this location, the type of work allowed under the permit (e.g., "Single Family", "Room Addition", "Deck", etc.), a brief description, and the date the application was received.

There is a quick glance section that gives additional permit information

Pending Activites are next, with actions listed in chronological order based on the date they are due. - so these activities are not complete.

At the bottom of the screen you'll find a series of boxes labeled Activities, Conditions, People, Related Case, Parcel Tags

By Clicking the Activites Box you'll see all the actions listed in chronological order based on the date they were completed. If you'd like to sort in another order, click on the column heading and the data will be refreshed. Common activities include the following:

By Clicking the People Box you'll see a list of names and phone numbers of people associated with this case. This information is taken from the application you submitted.

Common activities include the following:

Initial Screening Process: Each set of plans is screened when new plans are received to make sure they contain the necessary information to enable the City to do a thorough review. When completed, the activity status will be either Done (acceptable) or Fail. If plans fail, the applicant will be notified of what is missing and no further review will take place until revised plans are submitted.

BSafe – Under Review: This is the full plan review activity by the Building Safety Division where the plans are checked for compliance with the City’s building codes. Again, when this activity is complete, there will be an activity status of either Done or Fail. This activity also includes a Due Date that indicates our target for having the review completed. Although we do not guarantee the review will always be done by the review date, it is a reliable estimate of when the review will be completed.

Waiting for Resubmission: This activity indicates time between the date we return comments to the applicant regarding deficiencies in the plans and the date when revised plans are resubmitted for our review. If this activity's status is Pending, it may mean that we are not doing any active work on the application because we have not received revised plans.

Final Approval: When this activity is completed, the plans have been reviewed and approved, and building permits can be issued based on this set of plans.

By Clicking the Condition box you'll see a list of conditions that have been associated with this case. For Plan Review cases, this section will often be blank.

If you submit plans to The City of Overland Park on a regular basis, you might consider getting a logon to our system. If you log on, the main menu will have a section with the cases you have submitted to the City, thus querying the system goes much faster.
