Food/Restaurant Inspections

Inspectors conduct three unannounced routine inspections of each establishment every year. Establishments are also inspected before they open, when ownership changes or if a complaint is received.

Using the Kansas Food Code (.pdf file) as a guide, our sanitarians inspect establishments that offer food in Overland Park, with the exception of grocery stores, schools and day care facilities, which are inspected by the State of Kansas.

The conditions observed during these inspections are also available via the OP Food Court search function. These observations reflect conditions found during the time of the inspection and may not accurately reflect the current conditions in this operation at this time.

The city does not issue an initial nor renew a Food Establishment license until all critical violations have been corrected.

To inquire about food establishment inspections or permits or for more information on opening a restaurant in OP, call 913/895-6270 or e-mail health@opkansas.org.
