Daycare Fire Regulations
- Address numbers: Shall be 6" or larger and contrasting
in color.
- Flashlight: Located in an accessible location and working.
- Fire extinguisher: Minimum
2a10bc, with a current receipt or inspection tag.
- Smoke detectors: One on
each level, one in each room where children sleep, as well as a log sheet
showing the monthly testing of the detectors.
- Heating devices: Hot water
tank relief valve discharge kept within 6" inches
of floor. Combustibles kept 36" away.
- Fire/tornado drill log sheet: Kept on file for
evaluation by the inspector on either a calendar, notebook or official
state form. Shall post the exiting
plan, showing two ways out.
- Egress: Every escape path, including all stairways,
is clear of obstacles and all
doors are in proper working order.
- Locks and obstructions: Every required
exit door and window can be easily opened from the inside at all times
when the facility is operating.
Bathroom doors shall have an accessible key to open the door from the exterior
if needed.
- Fuses and breakers: Fill empty spaces with approved
filler plates and cover.
- Cover
plates: Electrical outlets on floor level need safety plugs.
- Basements: All basements approved for daycare shall have two approved exits. One of
these exits can either be a walkout door or an approved escape
window measuring 5.7 square feet or 821 square inches, and the bottom sill
not more than 44 inches from the floor.
- Second floor: All second floor rooms
approved for daycare shall have approved windows measuring 5.7 square
feet or 821 square inches of opening
space with the bottom sill not more than 44 inches from the floor.
