Owners of single family, duplex or tri-plex rental properties are required by city ordinance to register their property with the city:

The information gathered during the registration process will be used to locate single family, duplex and tri-plex rental properties as well as to provide contact information on the individuals who own the property should the city need to contact them in the event of an emergency or code violation.

The yearly registration fee is $10 per property/unit. If you have multiple property units (such as a duplex or tri-plex) owned by/listed under the same ownership description on a single tax parcel, as shown on the records of the Johnson County Records and Tax Administration, the fees are $10 for one unit and $2 for each additional unit.

The yearly fee (Jan. 1-Dec. 31) is due on or before Dec. 31. After Dec. 31, a penalty of $10 per property will be added for late payments.
