Fireworks Regulations

If you play, you will pay!

Paying for your neighbor's house is probably not high on your priority list. But you may be forced to do so if your decision to shoot fireworks causes your neighbor's house to catch fire!

Each year, fireworks are the cause of fires that destroy homes and businesses, resulting in thousands of dollars in damage.

"It has been my experience that there is never a shortage of witnesses in the neighborhood to identify the shooters of illegal fireworks," Fire Chief Bryan Dehner said.

"If we prove it is fireworks-related, the insurance companies will get their money from the shooter. It is not worth the risk," Dehner said.

Illegal Fireworks

In Overland Park, it is illegal to purchase, possess or discharge any fireworks, including sparklers, snakes, firecrackers and other devices according to the city's ordinance. Each year, Overland Park police officers respond to numerous complaints about illegal fireworks. Children and adults should know that any person receiving a ticket is subject to a $200 fine (fines range from $200 to $500).
