Crews will begin construction July 18, 2011, along U.S. Highway 69 and Interstate 435. This project is a continuation of the U.S. 69, 75th Street to I-435 project. KDOT will oversee the project, which is expected to be complete in 2013.

The project includes:

  • Construction of collector/distributor roads along southbound U.S. 69 from I-435 to 119th Street and along eastbound and westbound I-435 from U.S. 69 to I-35. This is to relieve congestion from vehicles entering and exiting the highway, similar to the ramps for I-435 between Nall and Roe.
  • Reconstruction of the Quivira and I-435 Interchange including new bridges over I-435.
  • Partial reconstruction of College Boulevard and U.S. 69 Interchange.
  • Reconstruction of Switzer Road, from College Boulevard to Indian Creek, including the reconstruction of twin bridges over Indian Creek.
  • Reconstruction of the bridge at 108th Street and Nieman.
  • Noise walls will be constructed or reconstructed along eastbound and westbound I-435 from I35 to U.S. 69.
  • Noise walls will be constructed along southbound U.S. 69 from Indian Creek to 119th Street.

The actual construction bid cost was $101 million. The City of Overland Park will contribute $8 million towards the cost of construction.

Eventually, the city would like to extend improvements on U.S. 69 through 167th Street.
