Traffic Calming Program
The city has developed a traffic calming policy to help deal with complaints about traffic, particularly speeding, on residential and collector streets.
Traffic calming measures may include signage, speed bumps, stop signs, increased police enforcement or roundabouts - anything that will reduce the negative effects of motor vehicles, alter driver behavior and improve conditions for residents.
Although funding has not been earmarked specifically for the city's traffic calming program, individuals may contact the city and request inclusion in the program.
City staff will use the traffic calming toolbox to determine what, if anything, would be beneficial for the neighborhood.
Past project:
80th Street between Antioch Road and Newton Street
To calm traffic in this area, the city installed an entrance median at Antioch, a chicane (an S-shaped curve that narrows the road) near Antioch, two roundabouts, a raised intersection at Lowell Avenue and a choker (narrowing of the roads) between Hemlock and Lowell.
