Winter Storm Operations Map Overview
The Winter Storm Operations map is designed to allow residents to see the progress that is being made regarding plowing or treating streets during a winter storm.
The map shows:
- Snow plows currently in operation
- Traffic signal cameras (over 100 camera images updated every few minutes)
- Which residential areas have been cleared and/or treated
- Priority streets (streets that are treated first)
NOTE: This map does not show the status of major streets. Major streets are constantly being worked on until they are completely clear.
The map is unavailable from 5:15 - 5:35 a.m. daily due to system maintenance and requires the latest version of Adobe Flash.
Understanding the Map
- Storm Response Overview: Progress updates provided by the Public Works snow crews.
- Address Search: Enter street number or intersection to select desired location which will zoom to the neighborhood level.
- Do not include punctuation, but include the "W" or "St", "Ave", "Rd", etc. See more details on entering valid addresses.
- Map Tips: These tips provide quick access to essential points for understanding the map. To view the entire map, select "Hide Map Tips."
- Refresh Button: Click the "Refresh" button to update the map.
Neighborhood Level
- Residential Areas vs. Residential Sub-Areas: The city is divided into areas and then into sub-areas. Each truck is assigned a specific area.
- A truck will finish one residential sub-area before moving on to another sub-area within that truck's assigned area.
- Assigned Trucks: Trucks assigned to that particular residential area are displayed in orange with a black dot.
- Block Level: The blue pins display an area within 500 feet as well as the snow plow history. See more details.
- Traffic Signal Cameras: Select the traffic camera (circle symbol) to see a current photo of road conditions at the desired location.
- Neighborhood Status: When residential areas are plowed or treated the sub-area will display a different color (see legend).
Snow Plow Truck Status
Trucks assigned to the neighborhood residential area display with a black dot in the middle. (click the refresh button on lower right corner)
- The number of active plows will fluctuate during the day and will drop during rush hour and shift changes.
- The snow plow(s) assigned to your area will periodically leave your area to refuel, refill product, change drivers or assist with other tasks.
FAQ
Q: Why do I see trucks in my area, but they are not plowing my neighborhood?
A: Trucks drive through unassigned areas to refuel, change drivers, etc. Only trucks assigned to your area (orange trucks with a black dot) will treat your neighborhood.
Q: What if a snow plow missed an area?
A: If after you determine the truck has left the area (area marked in purple or green), submit an online ticket with street location.
Q: It's 5:15 a.m. and I do not see the map?
A: Between 5:15 - 5:35 a.m. daily the map is unavailable due to system maintenance.
