Roundabouts
Roundabouts are circular intersections used throughout the world, and more recently, Kansas City and Overland Park.
A traffic calming measure, roundabouts serve vehicles from every approach simultaneously unlike traffic signals, which can cause delays. The center islands of a roundabout deflect entering traffic and reinforce driving speeds lower than 25 mph.
Overland Park's roundabouts include:
- Santa Fe and Conser (two-lane);
- 110th and Lamar (two-lane);
- 133rd and Lamar (two-lane); and
- Smaller, one-lane versions throughout city.
Roundabouts are one of the safest types of intersections. They reduce injury accidents, delay traffic, and reduce fuel consumption, air pollution and construction costs.
