Post Construction - Stormwater Management
Whether it’s redevelopment or new construction, post-construction stormwater management is an important consideration and can significantly reduce the amount of pollution heading to area waterways.

New development as well as redevelopment often increases the amount of impervious surfaces, such as streets, parking lots and buildings. Stormwater runoff flows across these impervious surfaces collecting sediment, litter, motor oil, fertilizers and other pollutants along its way before ending in Overland Park waterways untreated.
Developers are required to meet stormwater treatment guidelines approved by the city, but they can also do their part to protect the environment by adopting other stormwater best management practices.
Best management practices can include non-structural methods of reducing stormwater such as using preserved soils or building stream buffers or can include more structural options such as permeable pavement or bioretention ponds.
