1/8 Cent Sales Tax

The 1/8 cent sales tax is applied to purchases made by residents and non-residents in retail businesses throughout the city.

Revenue from the tax is used to fund a:

• Residential street improvement program which consists of street construction, curb replacement, new sidewalks and street light upgrades.
• Thoroughfare street improvement program which widens thoroughfares and enhances traffic management systems and traffic flow on these main corridors.

Each program receives as nearly as possible one-half of the revenue generated by the tax.

The 1/8 cent sales tax must be approved by voters; it was first approved in 1998. Between 1999 and 2010, approximately $66 million has been collected and expended on related improvements.
