Tree and Shrub Maintenance

Tree Next to the Street

Trees in the right of way are a shared responsibility between the property owner and the Parks & Forestry Division.

Forestry crews will remove dead trees, dead/broken limbs, and clean up storm damage from trees in the right of way.

Other concerns, such as low limbs (8 feet over sidewalk and/or 12.6 feet over the street), encroaching branches on private property or aesthetic pruning, are the responsibility of the property owner (OPMC 7.16).

When complaints are made, a letter is sent to the property owner requesting the violation be rectified within 30 days.

Removal of trees within the right of way is prohibited unless authorized by the city forester. For more information or to request a free inspection; contact the city forester using Overland Park Cares.

Winter Tree Issues

For limbs blocking the street or sidewalk create a service ticket through Overland Park Cares. For limbs blocking the road after normal work hours, contact the non-emergency police dispatch center at 913-895-6300.
