You can recycle/reuse that
October 27, 2011
Overland Park, KS - This Saturday will be a recycling extravaganza in Overland Park.
If you have old medication, used carpet and padding, old cell phones, outdated and unwanted sensitive documents, Overland Park wants to help you clean the clutter from your home.
"From clothing to computers to medical equipment and more, we will have volunteers ready to help you off load and either recycle it, or provide it to an organization for reuse for those in need," said Jim Twigg, environmental programs coordinator.
There are two events on Saturday. Visit the city's Web site to learn more about each.
They are:
• Electronic Recycling and Recycling Extravaganza. It is from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Black & Veatch, 11401 Lamar. You can bring computer CPUs, keyboards, mice, VCRs, stereos, scanners and more. There is a fee of $10 to $25 for computer monitors, televisions and large printers. You can shred confidential documents, recycle a cell phone, drop off reusable building material, and used carpet and padding, bring unused fabric and notions, clothing and housewares, and bicycles. Various organizations are working to restore many of the items for reuse. There is a small fee for shredding documents. This event is sponsored by Black & Veatch, Sprint, and the cities of Leawood, Mission Hills, Prairie Village and Overland Park.
• Prescription Drug Take Back Day. Safely dispose of your unused and outdated medicine by bringing it to Overland Park from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Myron E. Scafe Justice Center, 8500 Antioch, or the W. Jack Sanders Justice Center, 12400 Foster. This event is free. This event is sponsored by the Overland Park Police Department and federal Drug Enforcement Administration.
