Be safe during the holiday season shopping
November 18, 2011
Overland Park, KS - Great sales opportunities are part of the annual holiday season but so are the crowds.
Some shopping areas can have as many shoppers as a small Kansas community.
"Holiday shopping has already begun," said Police Officer Justin Shepherd. "With anticipated crowds at the malls and other retail locations, we are asking people to be vigilant and take extra precautions."
Due to more shoppers, you need to be aware of your surroundings and take steps to prevent becoming a victim of a crime.
Remember your mother's advice: Out of sight, out of mind.
That applies to your wallet, purse and purchases.
Avoid putting your purse containing your driver's license, checkbook and credit cards in the basket of a baby stroller or shopping cart. Never leave your purse unattended. If you are shopping at night, park close to a parking lot light and be aware of your surroundings. Lock your vehicle. Be sure to conceal your purchases by locating them in a trunk or cover them with a blanket.
Adopt a buddy system. There is a deterrent in numbers. Shop with a family member or friend.
