New Year's resolution: Getting rid of your trash
December 23, 2011
It's coming.
Changes to your curbside trash service begin Jan. 1, just 10 days away.
Mandated changes to residential trash service are due to new landfill regulations implemented by Johnson County as required by the state of Kansas. Yard waste will no longer be deposited in the landfill.
The city of Overland Park does not provide trash service. Overland Park inspects trash vehicles and issues permits to allow haulers to operate within the city.
One of the biggest changes will be a volume-based or "pay-as-you-throw" fee service. Each hauler will set the volume of trash that it will collect each week for a monthly fee.
You will have a container for trash, one for recycling and a separate collection for yard waste.
