Farmers' Market vendors offer ideas
September 1, 2010
The first of three meetings with current, past and interested sellers at the Overland Park Farmers' Market took place on Saturday.
The city of Overland Park is taking over management and operations of the market beginning with the 2011 selling season.
As part of the transition, the city is inviting vendors to meet with staff members and share ideas and thoughts about market operations. Thirty-three people attended Saturday's meeting.
Suggestions included assigned parking for vendors to be closer to the market stall, policies regarding labeling on resale of produce not home grown, re-establish a Wednesday market in May, whether to limit the market to farm produce, insurance requirements and more.
The second meeting with vendors is today, the next on Thursday evening.
Suggestions and comments will be compiled by city staff members, who will make a presentation to the Community Development Committee of the City Council in October regarding policy issues for the 2011 season.
