Here comes the bus
January 25, 2012
2012 will be a significant year for bus service along Metcalf and elsewhere.
Work will begin in March on a traffic signal priority system, which really is changing signals to expedite bus service along the Metcalf and Shawnee Mission Parkway transit corridor.
Soon after, groundbreaking will take place on construction of 18 transit stations and two-park-and-ride facilities. One park-and-ride facility will be located at Rosana Square Shopping Center, on the northwest corner of 119th Street and Metcalf.
Additional improvements include pedestrian locations, sidewalks, crosswalks, bike-hike trails and landscaping.
The work is part of a federal $10 million investment to improve capacity, reduce travel delays and ease congestion.
Johnson County Transit, along with the cities of Mission, Overland Park, and Roeland Park, and the Mid-America Regional Council, are partnering on this project.
