Google and Overland Park working together in the future?

Could be.

Google has launched a nationwide effort asking cities across the country to submit Requests for Information regarding interest in an experiment to make Internet access better and faster.

According to Google, it plans to test ultra-high-speed broadband networks in one or more trial locations. Delivery of Internet speed would be 100 times faster than most web users experience at fiber-to-the-home connections.

Part of the RFI requires city officials gather pertinent information and gauge public interest, including businesses and individuals.

If you have an interest in helping Overland Park apply to be part of Google's effort, let the city's Information Technology Department know at to HighSpeedGoogle@opkansas.org.

News Facts93 percent of Overland Park residents have access to a computer, and 98 percent of those are connected to the Internet.
