Free Gifts for 50th anniversary

A citizens' committee for Overland Park's 50th anniversary wants you and businesses to help mark this major milestone.

May 20 is the official anniversary date that Overland Park became an incorporated first class city in Kansas. At the time, Overland Park was the sixth most populous city in Kansas and the most populous in Johnson County with a population of 28,085.

Today, Overland Park has more than 173,500 residents and continues to grow.

Bumper stickers, lapel pins and yard signs are available free of charge for homes associations and neighborhood groups, businesses and individuals.

To pick up your bumper stickers, lapel pins or yard signs, call 913/895-6000.

Corporate donors such as Black & Veatch, Sprint, Deffenbaugh Industries, the Overland Park Doubletree Hotel, Heavy Constructors Association, Valley View Bank, Firebaugh Construction, Overland Park Regional Medical Center and Menorah Medical Center have helped offset expenses.

Committee members have identified 50 activities and events in Overland Park to help commemorate the 50th Anniversary.
