Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)

The city, through the Fire Department, hosts two courses for medical providers, such as paramedics, physicians, nurses, respiratory therapists and other professionals, who may respond to cardiac emergencies.

  • Two-day initial course
    • Must have a current Basic Life Support (BLS) provider card.
    • Class is limited to eight participants.

  • One-day refresher course
    • Must have a current BLS provider card.
    • Must have current or recently expired (<90 days) ACLS provider status.
    • Register online

These hands-on courses teach medical interventions used to treat victims of respiratory emergencies, heart attack and stroke. It does include invasive techniques such as intubation, use of electrical therapy and administration of drugs.

To successfully complete the courses, you must:

  • Fully participate in the class.
  • Competently perform all core ACLS skills and cases.
  • Score at least 84 percent on the written examinations.

Cost is $240 for the initial class and $170 for the refresher course; both include the American Heart Association ACLS textbook.
