The Overland Park Arbor Day Poster Contest is open to kindergarten through sixth graders, with fifth grade students automatically entered in the local competition of the National Poster Contest. The poster contest rules can be obtained from Donna Thellman. The deadline for poster entries is Thursday, January 27, 2010 for fifth graders and Wednesday, March 25, 2010 for kindergarten through fourth and sixth grades. The contest is sponsored by the Legacy of Greenery committee and members will judge the posters.
City-wide winners from kindergarten through sixth grade will be recognized by Overland Park's mayor at the City's Arbor Day celebration on Friday, April 30, 2010, with the winning posters on display at City Hall. Prizes will include gift certificates to Borders Books. The winning fifth grade poster in the City contest will go on to District judging in the National Arbor Day Poster competition. The principal and or teacher at a winner's school will be recognized as will the on site directors of after school care programs and parents of home schooled children.
