Requirements for City Employment:

• There is no city residency requirement. Exception: Police officers must live within a 45-minute driving area from Overland Park, e-mail pdjobs@opkansas.org for more information.
  
  
• The minimum age to work at the city is 18 if the position involves use of hazardous equipment or chemicals. There are a limited number of positions available at the city's pools during the summer months that have a minimum age requirement of 14.
  
  
• The city requires a pre-employment drug test and criminal background/records check for all jobs. A pre-employment physical is required for most jobs.
  
  
• Relatives in the immediate family of current city employees may work in temporary positions only.

• Information about current job openings and application procedures are posted on the online employment application page.
  
  
• You can sign up to receive weekly updates of current jobs via e-mail.
  
  
• 24-Hour Job Information Hotline: 913/327-5627 (JOBS). This is a recorded message of job openings.
  
  
• Those interested in police officer positions should call the city's toll-free line at 1-888-547-5951 or e-mail pdjobs@opkansas.org for recruitment information.

Applications/Resumes/Cover Letters:

• An online employment application is required. You may apply for several jobs using the same application. Your resume/cover letter can be attached to your online application using several allowable formats.
  
  
• Cover letters may be addressed: "Dear Hiring Manager" or "To Whom It May Concern." We do not provide the hiring manager's name until the point of interview.
  
  
• You may apply after the deadline date. However, those candidates who applied by the posted deadline will be given first consideration.
  
  
• Applications are accepted online or in-person in the Human Resources Department. We will not fax paper applications to applicants; however, completed and signed paper applications may be submitted by fax, 913/895-5006, or postal mail/drop off at City Hall, c/o Human Resources Office, 8500 Santa Fe Drive, Overland Park, KS 66212. Interviews:

• Interviews are not automatic. If you are selected for an interview, you will be contacted by phone to schedule an interview. This time may vary depending on departmental needs and priorities but is usually within three weeks after the deadline date.
  
  
• The next steps in the employment process will be explained during the interview.
