  • A fire extinguisher (typically 2A/10B:C) with a current receipt or inspection tag.
  • A fire/tornado drill log sheet that can be reviewed by an inspector on a calendar, notebook or official state form. The emergency route should be posted, showing two ways out.
  • All basements approved for daycare use should have two approved exits. One of these exits either can be a walkout door or an approved escape window, measuring 5.7 square feet or 821 square inches, and the bottom sill not more than 44 inches from the floor.
  • All second floor rooms approved for daycare use should have approved windows measuring 5.7 square feet or 821 square inches of opening space with the bottom sill not more than 44 inches from the floor.
  • Every exit door and window should be easily opened from the inside at all times when the facility is operating. Bathroom doors shall have an accessible key to open the door from the exterior, if needed.
  • Every escape path, including stairways, should be clear of obstacles, and all doors should be in proper working order.
  • A working flashlight in an accessible location.
  • Address numbers that are 6 inches or larger, contrasting in color.
  • Hot water tank relief valve discharge should be kept within 6 inches of the floor; combustibles should be kept 36 inches away.
  • Fuses and breakers should have approved filler plates and cover.
  • Cover plates on all floor level electrical outlets.
