Civil Service Commission

The Civil Service Commission reviews, approves and assists the police department in the promotions process for officers below the rank of Captain.

It also serves as an appeals board when commissioned police officers below the rank of Captain are terminated, demoted or suspended for disciplinary reasons and for purposes otherwise provided.

The commission has seven members who are appointed by the mayor and confirmed by the Governing Body. Members serve three year terms and do not have regularly scheduled meetings; they meet as necessary for promotions or disciplinary action appeals.
